Old Looking Brass Thingy

    The green is paint rather than verdigris. Don't know if original or not but when I tried to wash the piece, the paint comes off easily with rubbing.
    Any idea what is this, old or not, origin etc.
    It stands about 4 3/4" to the top of the handle.

    Almost looks like an ashtray... It may be but it seems it was for putting a flame out.
    Are those burns around the mouth?

    I think that mask is a famous one from Pompeii ? Id go with tourist trinket ahtray .
