    Hello there!
Not antique ... but I haven't a clue how old it is.

About 3 1/2" tall and the head is over 4" across ... made of uranium "vaseline" glass (I need to figure out how to get my shutter to stay open longer to capture the glowing effect) with red-ish and (what I assume to be) aventurine glass spots on the top.

    My questions:
    • when do you guess this was made?
    • do you think it's Murano?
    • is there a name for the application of colored spots?
    Thanks for looking! :)

Mushroom paperweights were big in the 1960's, 1970's. That doesn't mean yours was done then but I'd say it's the most likely time frame. The addition of those aventurine pieces can indicate Murano but again that doesn't mean yours is Murano. Sorry I can't be more definitive. It's going to be difficult to pin down unless you can find an example for sale with a label.

    Thank you, Don!

I was guessing around the same ballpark for the dates. And ... I knew deep down that without a siggy or Murano sticker ... the "where" really couldn't be pinpointed. And ... thanks for confirming that those are little bits of aventurine glass (I've never seen any close up - in real life!)

Just because you couldn't be 'definitive' doesn't mean you weren't helpful :)

I thought Murano with the aventurine, but it could be from anywhere. These folks on the glass message board and friendly and helpful, maybe try there. I like that is glows green, very cool.

Thank you for that link, cx!
To be truthful, I'm a little scared to go and ask on that forum ... I read a thread where they were getting all worked up over whether the glass mushrooms were even paperweights or not ... eeek!
