at this point I feel I could carpet my house and several others.. but I am always at a loss as to whether they are good or not. My partner keeps buying them. :arghh:

anyways... if anyone can shed some light on this I would appreciate it. Thank you.

It does look like you've got a handknotted rug. In what may be a Tree of Life pattern or variant thereon. I say "may" because most of the ToL rugs show only a single "tree" and your rug either has multiple trees or those are some kind of branching flower. There is enough variation to the knotting, the yarn color and to the spacing and fine detail of the execution of the elements to know that this was not machine work.

I don't see a lot of wear (although the distance may be hiding some) and if the fringes and both ends are secured as shown in the one picture, that's a very good thing.

Does look it needs a good thwacking with a rug beater (by hand). But be careful how you vacuum if that's the only way. Do not use a powered attachment. If you must vacuum, use the tool that has no brush on the end.

You're very welcome, Rose. If I did not exercise extreme restraint, I would have the same problem as your partner. ;)
