There is a brooch under eBay's sold items that has a bird just like this, different brooch design, in the box, all original, listed as a hummingbird. I don't see hummingbird either, but I guess they took artistic license.

There are over 300 hummingbird species. I don’t know of any with that short a beak, but anything is possible. I have a hummingbird feeder, and one day I saw this odd thing and Mr. Google told me it was a hummingbird moth. Did ja Eva? :)

Yes, I've seen them. In my yard a few years back.....

    I haven't seen any since.

Jivvy the research is my favorite

I used to grow moonflower vines (they have bread plate size white night blooms) and the hummingbird moths la-la-la-loved them.

Then I moved too far south to grow them. Now I'm wondering if they'll grow here (four hours north of "too far south").

    Must google that. :joyful:

    I love moonflowers.

On a whim I purchased a pack of seeds this year......only one potted seedling is showing some leaves, but by the time it's mature enough for flowering, it'll be too cold to survive.

Come to think of it, we have them here as well, and I do remember seeing that very long tongue. Ours are like yours in France, a slightly different colour from inh's.
I just checked the Dutch butterfly map, and our town is a hotspot for them. We are very flowery.:hilarious:

When I lived about five hours north of here (Tennessee), I planted them one time. They came back every year.

According to hardiness zones, they should be fine here. But they also should have been fine south of here. They were not.

    Maybe I had soil issues.

I dunno, but we have tons of wild morning glories here, so I'm thinking I need some moonflower seeds and they'll be fine. :woot:

Morning glories also resurface here from the previous years. I just let the seeds fall to the ground. I do buy new seeds each year though just in case.

I'm 10 miles north of Boston, Ma.

I'm not talking about wild morning glories though, although the wild ones do exist around here. The leaf is smaller and very pointed. I have only seen them in white.

Google names them as Bindweed....invasive. But I've never had a problem myself.

Hmmm.... here is the link to the eBay completed auction....

We also have hummingbirds, I have morning glories all over the back fences. We had a shared fence with the neighbors, but he ripped all my morning glories out one year and threw them over our fence. I was heartbroken and very ticked off. My husband put up our own fence so this wouldn't happen again. I will have to post pictures.

Not my garden, but my roof terrace. I took this one ca 6 am (half asleep), after it had been raining and some drops remained on the tips of the strawberry leaves, carefully arranged like little jewels. Don't you love nature?
