pottery help age please

    Depends on size, Tricia, but looks like it could be an egg coddler sans lid.

    Think it’s a tobacco jar looking at the design. It should have a lid.
    Here’s a couple I found showing the similar design though I think yours is newer.

    it's approx 4" tall, looks like in on bottom, pen holder?

    That (tobacco jar) makes sense given motif. Size seems a bit small though.

    It's modern and don't think anyone using snuff nowadays.

    Without a lid, it's a good pen holder.

    Snuff is still made today.

    It may have been used as a pen holder but those ridges in the silver indicate a lid once fitted in there. It was most likely a souvenir item and may never have been meant to actually contain tobacco or snuff. Merely meant to suggest a time when those items were used.

    It is either for tobacco or a cigar holder, part of an early to mid 20th century smoking set. The top looks like there would have been a screw-on lid, with a rather loose fit. When the lids get broken, people often have wooden replacements made.
    That is because there were a lot of different manufacturers. I don't recognize this one.
