Percussion type instrument that looks like a Pomegranate????

I got this as part of the lot that contained 2 other items that I am also posting for help with possible ID.

It is very lightweight (1 oz.) & feels/looks like wood. However it also reminds me of possibly a pomegranate. When you shake it you can hear what sounds like small beads or hardened seeds. Sort of what it sounds like when you shake maracas. There is also a duller sound like a larger less hardened item is in there. It is 2 3/4" from side to side & is 2 5/8" top to bottom.

Looks like a dried gourd to me.................image googling - dried gourd rattle - brings up many images of enhanced gourds such as this

I guess when I think of gourds I think of something much larger.
