Martial Redon 1891 - 1896

I need a bit of help again. I am pretty certain it was painted by a professional and is hand painted or partly hand painted as the water, the frilly cap and sleeves, and the flowers can be felt by my fingertips. I cannot see any colour grading dots through my printers glass.









The edge is embossed and gilded.





But I haven't managed to find out anything about the backmark.



This is the usual one for period. The green MR France relates to manufacture of the white plate. The circular red M REDON signifies that the decoration was done in the Company's decorating shop.



But this is the one I need to find out about. The MR FRANCE is black, which I do not think is significant. The circle and SPECIAL is blue, and I cannot find any reference to a blue backmark in anything I have read.



So any insights you have will be appreciated.

Hello, I noticed that you posted in another article about Martial Redon, quoting from your Limoge book (Gaston). I have forgotten the title, something The encyclopaedia of Limoges.... by Mary Gaston 3rd edition Is it good and worth having?. I have located a 2nd hand copy for £10 delivered France.

 

I'm sorry, I am away from my books for the next few days. I believe this is my favorite Limoges book but don't want to tell you the wrong thing. If you can have patience with me until Monday I can respond then.

Sorry for the delay, Brian. Yes, Collector's Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, Third Edition by Mary Frank Gaston is my go to book. ISBN is 1-57432-171-4. I have found it to be invaluable as a reference source.

@dgbjwc My copy of Mary Frank Gaston's book on Limoges porcelaine arrive a couple of days ago, and have been ensconced in it every since. Thanks for recommending it, it is interesting as well as useful.

Mary has solved my identification problem. The use of blue for the M.Redon in a circle moves the start date of manufacture to the early year of 1882, and the "special" in a rectangle was sometimes used, but not clarified as to purpose. A great book.
