    Hi all!
I'm trying to help a friend identify this piece from her great aunt. I've gotten as far as Morimura/Noritake, 1911-1921. Doubt I'll ever be able to find the pattern. Curious now as to what it's for. The top rim is gilded and there is no inside lip, so it doesn't appear that it ever had a lid. My guess is a planter. Does anyone know? Thank you!! ~jen

I was thinking perhaps a serving dish for sugar cubes, but that width seems a tad large for that. I don't think large enough for any kind of planter. Hopefully someone else has useful ideas. It's very pretty.

While you are all trying to puzzle this out, I'd be happy to give the poor thing some loving home space. :)

I think it could be a ferner (pot made to hold a fern).

I wouldn't spend much time trying to ID the pattern. Most Noritake ferners were individual items and not part of an established pattern set. Not to mention that there are many early Noritake dinnerware patterns that don't have names. It's a lovely piece.

I had a similar piece, I sold it at an antique show to a very nice woman, she wanted it to display a pot of begonias :shame:
