    What a fabulous chair! I wouldn't want to lean my back on it, either.

    It mentions the Frauenadler in the coat of arms of Rysdorfer or Rysdorp (Dutch translation).
    I checked the source, which is the Dutch "Wapenboek Gelre", and Rysdorfer was located in the then county of Holstein, in the far north of Germany, bordering on Denmark:

    I don't know if that is relevant to the origin of the chair, but it could be.

    That's a Harpy alright. Virtually identical. Thanks.

    I wonder whether the dozen chairs were a once-off for a German family.

    It is virtually identical to the Frauenadler, the picture on the right in the link.

    Alas, and as I explained earlier on, I don't own them. There were 12 of them lined up in a large empty house in which I had to do some work for a day.
