This was described as silverplate. However, despite extensive polishing wear there is no burn through. The spoon has a couple hallmarks that are very hard to read. The cup is easier but partly worn away. It looks to me like the remaining letters read METAL ARGENTE with a larger GH beneath

They are lightweight, like silver, and the cup doesn’t have that “old coin” smell you often get.

It came in a nice vintage wood case with velvet AstroTurf. Someone must have peeled off the outside leather/ette material and painted it just before the sale. D6F40A22-9B3F-4693-9039-7824E3D0A5A0.jpeg B9EB5205-E688-4151-829E-3EA604656898.png B73A55C5-3AA6-4193-B16B-22EBABDC7F5D.jpeg

When French punches are rectangular (as they are here) they meet the requirements for silver plate identification. The fact that you see no "burn through" (which is a very odd term if you are referring to plate wear) implies little use and potentially, thicker than normal plating. What we don't see (and I would expect to) is the numeric designation of the number of grams of silver used in the plating.
