Featured EAPG - Krys-tol or Chippendale Salt in Amber

Hello Board Friends - I've come across this little salt that looks like it might be Krys-Tol but I'm not sure the handles are quite the right shape. I also can't find any record that says Krys-Tol was made in amber. It stands 2" tall and 3 1/2" from handle to handle. I'm not sure if I've got an old piece or a contemporary novelty. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Why do you think it is Krys-tol? A lot of companies made patterns like this.

 

Krys-tpl is a patented finishing process that was licensed to several manufactures and applies to colorless items only. Chippendale is a plain pattern with a large number of shapes. It could be made in color by one of the several makers. The Krys-tol mark appears on a dozen or so different patterns.

 

I think I must have misunderstood the definition of Krys-tol. I was searching under Chippendale originally and came across some pieces carrying both a Krys-tol and Chippendale title and misunderstood what the seller was trying to say. Either that or the seller didn't title it correctly. Anyway, I was unable to find anything under Chippendale in color so assumed (incorrectly it turned out) that Krys-tol might be found in colors. The EAPG database only listed two or three patterns under Krys-tol and didn't indicate it was a finishing process rather than a pattern. I found the multiple patterns under Krys-tol a bit confusing but some other pattern names are duplicated so I figured Krys-tol was one of those.

No one supervises me in my logic process so I frequently wander away and need to found by a kind person and led back to the right direction! I'm okay on my own if I can find a book reference but was never terribly good at independent thought. I blame it on my Catholic upbringing where independent thought was severely punished. One kept one's head down and learned only by rote memorization.

Krys-tol by Jean Chapman Loomis Has a good history of the Krys[tol mark and the patterns using it. Also reprints a number of catalog pages for Chippendale pattern.
