This reminds me: my mother, who would never have harmed an animal, was responsible for two near-disasters with my very first cat.

One freezing winter day, Kitty yowled to go out. Mother opened the door, out went Kitty, and the door was hastily closed. Too hastily. A little black fur ball was left on the carpet. T'was the tip of Kitty's tail... :(

Then, a year or so later, we moved to a new house. Kitty gave his usual "I want to go out" yowl, and Mother, who was in her new bedroom, opened the window and put Kitty out on the porch roof as usual.

Except the porch roof was now in front of my room, and Kitty went down three stories!

No ill effects from either adventure...but that tail was forever blunted.

Poor kitty! I'll bet he didn't trust Mom one bit; she'd already bitten his tail off! I hope the poor kitty in the photo amscrayed and found himself a better home ASAP. Instead of taking that photo I'd have beaned him with the camera. The worst my two have to put up with is getting picked up when they'd rather sleep...or get under my feet. Thelma gets a pill three times a day; she isn't best pleased.
