Yet another "What is this thing" thread :-)

Hello all, my father recently bought this item at an antique sale mostly because it intrigued him as neither he nor the seller knew what it was. Upon first glance it seems obvious... must be a bottle opener. But looking more closely it doesn't seem quite right, particularly with the flattened end that appears to be for prying, and the pointy bit on the bottle-opener-looking end. But maybe I'm overthinking it.

Anyone know?

 

Old cast iron stove lid/cover lifter tool maybe.

 

Yes, that also crossed our minds.... but all of those that I have seen have insulating spring type handles and the lifting end is shaped to go into a notch in the cover plate to securely lift it without it sliding off. I don't think this is quite right for this...
