Nippon Mark- Hand Painted Maple Leaf w Banner

Hi All,

Have been trying to date this plate with Nippon mark but have not found one similar. It has Hand Painted written in an arch above maple leaves with a banner below and the word Nippon.

Any help is much appreciated.

Have not found this mark (yet!) but I can tell you that with Nippon instead of Japan, this was made before 1921.

 

Don't think that is a maple leaf.

 

Birch, I think. (edited) On the back. One the front is more like an oak.

 

Paulownia leaf, based on Japanese "mon" or clan/family crest.

 

OK! That's the one on the back; look it up on Wikipedia. Fascinating!

 

Found this. Says "The bottom has the green mark, Book, Collector's Encyclopedia of NIPPON Porcelain, page 110, Mark #74, Paulownia flowers and leaves, hand painted NIPPON, crest used by Empress of Japan, kiri no mon. This marked was used only up to 1921, so the bowl was made before then." Not sure if info is correct. Can't really see the mark well - not sure if empty banner beneath.
