Hi, I have 4 Cherner pretzel chairs but not totally sure if they are plycraft or what. I have exhausted my research and have not seen any that are fully upholstered like these. The material is black vinyl. If anyone with more knowledge about these would care to chime in , I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks !!!
Here's a fully-upholstered set as found on liveauctioneers.com. Typically they had upholstery on the front of back rest and top of seat, or no upholstery, but apparently there were some upholstered like these. They originally came with oval Plycraft stickers on the underside as shown in 2nd photo, but they often fall off with age.
Great design - sometimes called Rockwell chairs because Norman Rockwell included one in this 1961 cover illustration. I have a set of armless ones that are reasonably comfortable but not designed for long dinners.
Looks kind of like a thong from the back. Old Norman must be rolling over in his grave. And you should check for reupholstery which is also possible.
