Architectural Cast Iron

Here's a piece I picked up for the garden.It's abt 30" by 30" very heavy
industrial cast iron air register/grate for barns,factories.My Lady fell in love w/ one years ago at a hi-end architectural antique joint-$400 ! Found this for $85 & made us happy.
Could become a patio table,bench back or any ideas ???
PS-I'm thinkin the rust stays,goes w/ the Corten steel we've got.

 

I think the rust goes very well with the broken grid on the opening. Might consider a few coated of varnish and it becomes washable and hygenic if you're going to dine on it.

 

Brian-I s there any kind of varnish You'd recommend on this re: preserve the rust but get it hygienic & washable ?

From personal experience, no; but I found this on the Internet:
On most metals, two coats of Everbrite™ Clear Protective Coating are recommended. On raw steel or rusted metal, 3 to 4 coats are recommended because the metal is very porous. Everbrite™ will seal the metal and will look great for years and can be maintained indefinitely.

It probably is American, however, there should be an equivalent in whatever country you live in. Enjoy sitting beside.
