This is a longshot but maybe someone will recognize it. Also, what kind of date can you put on the Grindley backstamp? (Nerlich was a Canadian restaurant supply house that operated for more than a hundred years so that doesn't help. It may still be operating)
    It is 5.75" wide.

I'd think it was pre-World War II. 1930s perhaps. That's based on the palette and the modern scripted initials.

As nobody has jumped in, perhaps you will forgive me for speculating.

I suggest your sauce boat was manufactured between 1891 and 1908, for the following reasons:

After 1891 the requirement was for ENGLAND to be printed on the item and that was true until 1921 when MADE IN ENGLAND
became the requirement for exporting to America et al. However, before 1921 arrived

W.H. Grindley incorporated a new company, 'The Grindley Hotel Ware Co.', in 1908 and one imagines they would have switched existing customers to the new company (ref: www.thepotteries.org) at that time.

@Debora, Sorry your big palette of many colours caught my attention and I though it followed straight on from the original posting. I didn't intentionally ignore what you had posted.

All good, Brian. Think you're a bit early though.

say_it_slowly The worst prison is a closed heart

Looking through Godden's at Grindley marks, none of them say "made in", just "England" including those as late as 1954-. The only Vitrified mark shown is a bit different and dates from 1925.

What mark indicates it's for export? Does the number "4661" indicate anything?

Nerlich tells us it was produced for export to Canada. 4661 could be the pattern number.

"Made in" is only required when there might be confusion, or so I read, such as when a t-shirt says France on the front but was made in Vietnam. It would be labeled "Made in Vietnam." Otherwise, "Made in" is optional.
