    Hello "Boland"
Found this post of the watercolour of the painter Rudolf Grau on the internet. My interest in the painting is that my friend is a descendant of the painter Rudolf Julius Grau. We would like to get the history of the painting and if possible make contact with the current owner.
    Regards Nam73

Greetings @Nam73 and welcome to the forum. Thanks for the message. Unfortunately I don’t have any additional information on the history of the painting. I have owned it for a couple of years and bought it in a charity shop in the Cape Town area. Never could find
much information on the artist. Maybe your friend could share what they know? That would be interesting. Thank you

Thank you for the reply. @Boland . I am a hobby genealogist helping people build and research their familytrees and this is were the link to Rudolf Julius Grau comes in and your painting. Rudolf came to South Africa in 1895, intially as a farmer from Germany. He was a clever and and succesfull business man having been apppinted director of Castle Breweries (later known as SA Breweries). He was headhunted in the 1920s to merge the 4 leading breweries of the then South West Africa. With the merger he became Managing Director of Southwest African Breweries now known as Namibia Breweries. The friend is a descendant of Grau. As mentioned Rudolf was a hobby painter/artist and was not painting full time.

How very interesting. Thanks for information. Rudolf must indeed have been a very good and gifted businessman to have been at the helm of such a big company. I have always really liked his painting. A man of many talents it would seem, farmer, high profile businessman and artist. Really makes me appreciate the painting even more..
