Featured Old jewelry box? What age and possible origin?

    Hi all! Just got in some nice bits from an auction that I hope to share in the next little while. This box was described as a jewelry box, is it? It is not in the best condition but I think it's sweet. Is it Victorian do you think? Measures 11.75"L x 8.75"W x 5"H. Anything else you can share would be most welcome. Thank you :)

    I think it was originally meant for a set of instruments or implements, but it's a jewellery box now.:playful:

    No. You can do an internet search for Victorian marquetry box and many similar come up.

    I just realised looking at the photos again that the little broken piece lying at the bottom of the box is for the top section on the left beside the circular area. I will have to fix it :)

    I would say Victorian.
    Its very similar to one I have that I refurbished.

    Is the rectangle in the middle of the top cover made of mother of pearl? Or is it glass? Or something else?

    Seconded. It's a very nice gent's box. Watch collectors buy them as soon as they pop up for obvious reasons. The ring slots in back were probably meant for cuff links.

    I sold one or two of these on eBoo; they always vanished quickly because they're rarer than ladies' boxes.
