Hello! My mom has a vintage wooden box she received as a gift when she was young from an elderly friend. It has tongue-and-groove joints, and is small (abt. 7” long x 5” tall x 5” deep). Looks Like it was once painted with colors but those are mostly gone and the finish needs attention in spots. There is a carved mark on the bottom.

Any ideas as to its maker or age? Thanks in advance for any help.

Getting reformed Gothic vibes myself. Fits the theme.

looks British from the signature ...done in the style of a silver hallmark !

The monogram does feel Brit (?). Arts & Crafts collectors are very, very picky about original finish.

Thank you very much for the comments. My mom is 81 and is slowly going through her things and deciding which is "not for the yard sale". I have always liked this little box, she used to keep decks of cards in it when I was little, ready for a game of gin rummy. I've looked further online based on your tips, and have seen some similar things although nothing with that particular mark, but it's great to be able to possibly place it as coming from a certain time period.
