Is this ring electroplated?

    This ring has a blue stone. It's marked 14 K E on the inner band. Does that mean it's electroplated gold? bluering2.jpg bluering1.jpg

    I'm not absolutely certain from photos, but think stone is what is known as nicolo: banded agate with a thin, translucent white layer over a black layer. The blue is an illusion; it's really the black filtered through the white. These are meant for engraving, creating an intaglio.

    However, since the band is electroplated, the 'stone' may be glass, in which case the top layer is actually blue.
