I was out working at the age of 16yrs, my father demanded all my money (or get out) so buying clothes was not an option back then .. I had few clothes ... he bought himself a boat, and had the best of food for himself. At the age of 18 yrs. I found myself a little cheap apartment facing a lovely park .. and moved in. Money was scarce and I ate a lot of Kraft dinner, boyfriends would take me out to eat and the guy I married would bring me lunches at my place of employment. My sisters and brothers remained close and I was happy. My father hated me because ( get this) I apparently screamed when he picked me up as a little baby, he was on leave during the war .. he NEVER let me forget my transgression. WELL, now that I've got that off my chest I apologize for my mini rant ... just the past coming back to bite me in the backside .. Sorry, Joy.

Some people raised in that environment would have become angry & felt they had the right to treat other people that way. And some are molded into the reverse. From all the kindness & generosity you bring to this forum, we know which way you went.

Thank You Bronwen, it made me stronger, as a woman and person. I have always cared about the human condition, Too sad that some can't get over their past instead of using it to feel for others, It did leave me with a few bouts of depression but nothing I couldn't handle. When I learned my fathers own childhood I understood him better he went the way of anger and violence .. I'll bet a lot of evil crimes could be traced back to the childhood ... Joy. :)

There was a brand - Bonnie something- that teen girls wanted in 60's-70"s.

    Bonnie Belle cosmetics/skin care?

Not exactly a luxury brand, but a bit pricier than some teen clothes. Coordinated pieces, a name that evoked Englishness, the way Burberry does. I don't think it was a person's name. On the other hand, can't tell you how often I'm sure the word I'm trying to think of starts with M when it actually starts with T.

Could it be Laura Ashley you're thinking of? She did little floral sprigs and also worked with corduroys.

No, but thanks for bringing that name back. It was trendy in the same sort of way, perhaps very slightly earlier. Ashley was a name on into the 70s; don't recall the popularity of this surviving past 1970. They did have their own little boutique area of my local department store chain's juniors department.
