Featured Thought it was horn....

    I thought this was horn....I don't think so. Crazing seems to indicate some age to it. Is it what I think it is after a bit of Googling?

    Looks like a good possibility. I thought maybe Bakelite, but it wouldn’t be made in sections.

    Yes, I haven't seen one on the internet with the sections in the back. It is very lightweight and slightly irregularly shaped. The top seems to be coated/sealed with varnish or lacquer.

    I was about to ask if you had checked to see if it reacts to UV but Tortoiseshell does as well as horn as well as some lacquers and varnishes so probably not much help!

    Keratin either way, but I vote turtle shell unfortunately if you wanted to sell it.
