Featured Artist Imohl Brown And a slice of California history

Hi all and Happy Sunday.
This little 7" diameter slab of wood has some interesting history attached to it.
Noted California artist Imohl Brown painted not only on canvas, but other things like saws, rocks, and wood slabs. She signed, dated, identified, and numbered every piece she sold. (And you can read her writing) lol

The Bridge,
The Honey Run Covered Bridge was built in 1886, and the cover was added in the 1890's near Chico CA.
This bridge was destroyed in what was the deadliest, and most destructive wildfire in California's history. The Camp Fire burned over 150,000 acres and was hailed as the most expensive natural disaster in the world for 2018.

I think most of her paintings are in private collections. There isn't much out there for sale, and sold. There seems to be a few looking for her works.

I have seen it all firsthand. I've walked on the bridge back in the 1990,s, and have been to the area of destruction.

Chico's where they filmed the Sherwood Forrest scenes for the Technicolor 1938 'Robin Hood'.
Paradise,CA (12 mi frm Chico) was almost completely destroyed,only 5% of the structures remained untouched.85 people died in the fire.

 

Paradise is one of my favorite shopping places. A couple of nice antique shops that were not damaged in the fire. First time I was there was in 2021. There wasn't much town there, But started to rebuild!
Now there is more than 10,000 residents and growing!

 

Paradise & the whole Feather River Canyon are is beautiful.The entire Route (HWY 49) thru California's lovely.
Much of it's in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada where the bulk of the 1849 California Gold Rush occurred.
PS-That's good news Bulldog.They just have to make sure the escape route into the valley's more effective.

 

My son worked for CalFire for nine years and he knew some of the firefighters who worked the Camp Fire.

 

My old friend in N. Calif speaks very highly of CalFire.They employed Boring 737's to drop water on the Tubbs Fire.

imohl was my great grandmother and I am always looking for their works.
