    On FB marketplace.
I know they are out of fashion but really? :arghh:
Described as ‘upcycled’ and ‘refurbished’ with black chalk paint.
Poor thing. On a different note, is it worth saving….?

I would save that piece! If it is chalk and they didn't seal it in wax, you can probably remove it without hurting the original finish.

It seemed like a good idea at the time.

It looks great, but of course such paint is not the best solution. I wonder how much they ask for it?

Fall front desks are hard sells right now. Flat screen monitors won’t fit. This hideous paint job has rendered a nice piece virtually worthless. Aesthetically it’s worth stripping and restoring, but it will be tough indeed to find anyone to do it.

    Blasphemy.
A new can of stripper and some elbow grease will cure this fiasco.

    Thanks all!
Any ideas of how old it is?

    Agree. It’s just dire isn’t it…..

I get a 1920s-30s vibe. Its a real pity about that paint.

Unless they are exceptional here they pass at auction frequently, even 18th century ones. Given away often on FBMP. Personally I like them but don’t own one. This one deserves to be saved buts it’s probably not worth the time. Even if it wasn’t painted you’d easily be able to find a nicer one for little or literally no money.
