Hi folks it’s been a while since I last picked your brains.Have had this lamp on before looking any info on it but looking some advice.I took it apart and it’s clearly painted Gold inside .I would like to bring it to its original painted colour of Victorian Gold any thoughts or just polish which I’m reluctant to do as I wanted to get an original or similar shade for it.Last photo I just roughly translated the numbers just gave up and counted how many and seems to date to 1887 . Somehow, I doubt this was painted originally. Why would anyone paint brass the color it already is? .... or maybe I am missing what you are asking about?

Looks like brass to me and it looks like someone has already had a go or two with Brasso. :cat:

Brubaker, is there a way you can take a photo of the gold on the inside, so we can see what you mean?

Unless it was some kind of gilding.

Yes gilding is what I was thinking but again why gild inside I thought straight away it’s the original colour.Bit of research the Victorians did use gold on certain items to make them look luxurious looking around now to see if any for sale that have similar finish.Sorry can’t take the light apart I just had a kidney transplant a week ago.Can lie around and do a bit of research while I’m recovering.

No idea of the glass or shade but it’s part of finding out about it , the numbers of the Rd number are low and dates mid 1880’s interesting light .

A key would be finding a patent number on it-that'd give a general description of original apparatus set-up.
