Native American? Butterfly Basket

Hoping to identify this lovely butterfly basket. Measures about 10 inches tall. Purchased at a local auction which featured lots of Native American items. I know that doesn't guarantee anything but certainly hoping it is!

 

This may be made in Panama or Colombia by the Embera and Wounaan peoples.

That was my thought, too, based on the style and shape. My only reservation is that the stitches are wider than other Wounaan/Embera work I have seen.

I don't see hopi or panamint , or Papago....... non native with that glossy fibre !!!

 

Now that I can see it on my computer (rather than my phone) I think it is most probably Wounaan/Embera. The shiny material looks right.

Can you get a photo of at least part of the interior?

Yes, that looks right for Wounaan/Embera. The weavers focus on the outside of the basket, and are less concerned with a neat appearance on the interior. This is in contrast to most California and SW coiled baskets, where the weavers usually create neat stitches on both surfaces.
