Featured Dilemma, what to do? 1950s 8k 333 gold bracelet!!

I bought this beautiful bracelet for $100 and it weighs 25 grams of 8k gold. I believe it to be German from the 1950s. However it is way too long and doesn't fit at all. I need to take two links off but I fear that it may ruin the structural integrity of the bracelet... The links are hollow so I also fear that heating them up will have ill effects. I hate that I can't wear it as it is! What would you all do? Have it shortened it leave it alone?

Discuss it with a goldsmith, to see if and how it is possible.
Otherwise wear it with a thin short gold bracelet that you link through this one so it won't slip off. I wear one of my long gold bracelets that way.

Very nice design, transitional Art Deco-later Modernism. And I agree with German, with that combination of 8k and the design.

Are there letters in the diamond shaped mark?

 

Take it to a jewelry store which has a laser welder.

I'd wear it as it sits, or sell to someone who will. No way would I melt that or mess with it. There are too many too bloody short bracelets out there as it is!

 

Can you wear it as an ankle bracelet? Or clip an appropriate ribbon on, that enables you to use it as a choker or necklace?

 

Spart is male. Not sure he would wear an ankle bracelet or a choker, but you never know.

 

It looks like the links are held together with pins and it may well be an easy process to have a couple of links taken out. Speak to a jeweller as above.

 

Thanks all, I would never melt this down no matter what! I have some photos of it on my wrist and I must say this is a chunky bracelet! It had to be for a man back in the day no? I can fit four fingers under the bottom of it when worn.

What would later modernism be period wise? 1950s 60s? Also, there are letters in the little mark to the right of the 333 can't make out the first one but the second is a W

 

I have to say it has a lot of presence when worn! I love it. Could it been originally worn higher up on the arm? Such as over a pair of opera gloves mid forearm? But either way, my philosophy on bracelets is if I can get it on over my big hand/wrist it fits! Many a heart has been broken by a petite little bracelet.

 

To me the size looks fine on you, spart.

Let's just say that Germans tend to eat huge portions, which leads to many German women having thick wrists.

 

Nice piece, I'd think probably intended for a woman. What is the length? It looks fine on your wrist to me as well, and I prefer bracelets a bit loose. Of course as AJ suggests, my half-German grandmother passed on her large wrists to her female descendants, though I might suggest that in her case it was just a large sturdy frame rather than too much food (born in 1901, she was 5'11", tall even for a man back then). Like my Mom, my wrists are 7.5" so an 8" to 8.5" bracelet is what I typically wear...

I love it and I'm sure someone else would be happy to give you a good profit for it if you decide not to have it shortened.
