    Hello all!

I bought these two cups (?) from an antique store in the Netherlands. The antique store had a lot of items from China and Japan.

Does anyone know what exactly are these and especially: how old are they?
Also those seem to be Chinese letters, right?

    No maker's mark.

    Thank you!

They look Japanese to me, and not antique. Teacups made in raku style, although not actual raku.

Hey, thanks! How can you tell they are not antique?

Need someone to ID the characters.

I have this egg that seems to be the same type of ware. (Someone told me Chinese and the character means "chicken".) So if yours gets ID'd maybe I'll know more about mine:

Gold (or money) 金 and fire 火 (in Japanese but can also be names). Metal and fire in Chinese.

Not sure on this one, it doesn't look like Japanese for chicken, but could be Chinese - 鸡 (most common noun)

There is a Japanese tradition to sprinkle tiny gold leaf flakes in tea for the Japanese New Year.
Gold as a symbol of a wish for prosperity is one of the symbols in both the Chinese and Japanese New Year.
No wear on the base ring, and the fact that I have never seen any antique ones.
With the growing tea culture worldwide, Japan has been manufacturing many different types of these cups over the last 40 years or so, often with Kanji script on them.
