Odd Needle; Blued & Gold Plated Steel, Shallow Diamond Cross-Section; Slot & Hole

    ~71mm X ~2.8mm X ~1mm. Found in a needle case with several other odd sharps, mostly English. It has no marks. What is its purpose, please? Thanks for lookin'!

    Probably a "bodkin", used for threading tapes or yarns through a sewn tube/sleeve.

    Highly likely, books...an; the slot & hole give it a dual use capability? Also, why blued, an' gold-plated? Seems a bit much, for the humble task...to me.
