I think this bronze is made by the "Lost Wax" process as its hollow and I can feel and hear stuff moving about inside when its tilted (hope its not drugs):D
It has a couple of pinholes front and back to release gases

Just recovered from a clearance yesterday, it was in the attic and is very dirty.

So who is it, is it antique or tourist junk, is it Thai or Indian or somewhere else.
It measures 17 inches (44cm) long
    it weighs 137 grams (3lb)

It could be Javanese. It is certainly East Asian, and very likely SE Asian. From there it becomes a fairly generic type of the region.

East Java has a tradition of casting sturdy bronzes, and they have been making many replicas over the last 30 years or so.
Very nice 'stuff', I have a few Javanese bronze replicas myself. Mine are Hindu subjects.

The Buddha was a he, a Nepali prince called Siddharta Gautama.
I have never seen a dead person holding his arm and head up like that, not even in rigor mortis.

An expert on Asian antiques I follow recommends nothing more than a light wipe with a damp cloth and a very light application of oil to give the surface some moisture. A further cleaning could damage its well earned patina.

Washed in soapy water and waxed .
    Still displaying patina and verdigris.

It is now languishing atop of one of my display cabinets.

Be it an original or replica, it's nice that its bronze. I've always fancied finding a bronze buddha but very few and far between it would seem.

Regarding rigor mortis, the body sets in whatever position it is in when the muscles go rigid. So a body could in effect be in any position during this phase. This of course relaxes after a certain amount of time and the body becomes flexible again. I have sadly stumbled upon four bodies in my line of work (I work with older people) and some of the positions have been quite odd.

Oh dear, not where I thought this discussion was going! :nailbiting: I only run into fake bodies, or uh...very old skeletal remains in my job. I am sorry you've had that unexpected experience not only once, but 4 times!
