Featured Translation Help Chinese Document ?

This is some kind of (I assume) Chinese Document.The two cent stamp in the lower right hand corner has an image of the Great Wall on it.Any ideas greatly appreciated.

It’s Japanese. Looks like some kind of money ledger

 

甲午年 Happens every 60yrs. This one is probably 1894

 

Given the link from @charlie cheswick , I'd guess around 1920.

The Asian translations have always proved a challenge though.I could visit the local Chinatown,Chinese Market or museum ?

Hi:

This is a Chinese bill of sale totaling, in Chinese currency, 79 dollars and 70 cents. Kaiser is correct about the repeating 60-year cycle of years but the year is 甲子, not 甲午. It is from the year 1924, not 60 years earlier or later, verified by the Chinese Republic revenue stamp affixed to the bottom left corner.

The items listed were a little puzzling to me, as there many weapons: two large swords? three bows (as in bows and arrows)? The weapons were too archaic for an army in 1924．Research on the first items listed proved to be the key. They are 金瓜月斧 or “golden melon and moon axe." In modern times these ancient weapons--the first one a mace-like hammer and the second an axe shaped like a half moon--are used in martial arts. My conclusion is that this gentleman was buying supplies for a martial arts studio or martial arts students.

This is very interesting! Kudos to all who helped translate.
Also, Asian Art Forum has been very helpful to me in the past, by identifying some of my Japanese prints.

 

Stracci-I've sent one (2 ?) things into the AAF before and not heard back.This time though both our Chinese experts were incredibly generous.
PS-Love Japanese prints,just don't know how to ID an early 19th century strike with later 20th cent woodblocks.

 

Ditto. I have also identified a few items on the AAF, and not heard back from the OPs.
It is not a forum like ours, where everyone flocks together to try and help. It is more a matter of who happens to be there.
There is very good knowledge of mainstream Chinese and Japanese items, but very little to none of some other parts of Asia, like the Malay world, Sri Lanka, or tribal and non-organised cultures.

They also have no idea of Chinoiserie and other Orientalist art, which occasionally ends up there. They are of course an Asian arts forum, not Western art, but it would be nice if they could at least indentify it as non-Asian, instead of leaving people in the lurch.

 

Maybe I got lucky, when the right people were online.
It can be really hard to tell an older print from a 20th century print, since the printing process and paper style are essentially the same.
Artelino is another helpful website.

 

Too bad, @bosko69, that your bill of sale didn't also come with all those old weapons!!

 

Even a few old brown photos would've been appreciated,would've love to have seen those weapons.
