Featured Unusal Antique shoes

I've just come across this pair of (seemingly) antique shoes which are extremely unusual.

Has anyone seem anything like these before, or even suggest a country of origin / date ?

They look like antique "opanci", Balkan shoes. They could be Serbian, with that turned up toe. Nice find, Stift.

Tagging our Bulgarian friend @IvaPan , maybe she can tell us more.

 

I have worn opanci to dance, but different models from this one. Most of the ones I wore were a thick leather, so I think cow's leather.
There were also ones I had to soak in water overnight before wearing them (every time!). Those may have been Turkish, but no idea what the leather was.

 

Just thinking, those could have been rawhide.

 

What little I understand about raw-hide is that it shrinks when it dries, not to mention that it hardens to an extremely tough consistency.
