Featured Were these originally buttons?

Am I looking at these correctly? Kind of a cool older look, were these originally buttons?

 

The left one seems to be correct possition (crosses in the ground, with the vine growing around it?). Turning the other one around to the same position, gets the two rings facing each other. So, possibly chain-link buttons like these

I agree with the orientaton Marote suggested.
Very close to those chain link buttons too, although with that hook I think it could be a cloak clasp. Some cloak clasps have chains.

 

Looks like a cloak clasp to me too. Here's an example with chain.

I guess I was just throwing a date out there. The mixed metal style sort of reminds me of that era or a bit earlier (20s/30s) for some reason but then wondered if they could even be 1950's, so I averaged them all together and said 1940's. Crazy, I know!

 

Not too many cloaks in the 1940s. I'd think late Victorian. Let's see what others think.
