Small elephant figurines- bronze?

Hi all,please give me your thoughts on these figurines. They look bronze to me? And they look fairly old to me? (But who knows) The one is only slightly bigger than the other and stands 4,5cm high. Together they weigh 250 grams. Thoughts on origin? Thank you for any comments.

 

They are known as Burmese opium weights.
Many were made for export and the tourist trade. Yours look to have some age, but I'm not sure they are genuine. They look less refined than the genuine ones I usually see.
They are cute though, and people collect elephant figurines.
They are bronze, but Asian bronze is a different alloy from Western bronze.

 

Many thanks AJ,great info and interesting. I think I should have actually been able to figure these out myself (I now vaguely remember seeing these weights or reading about them somewhere before) I agree,they look a bit rough.
