Grabbed this cute little thing today. I think the edges/rims are silver plate. Looks Japanese to me. Here is one described as Inaba.

Not sure what that means. Google makes reference to Yoshizo Inaba and tuna. Wouldn't fit much fish in it! Price is a bit suspect too perhaps. Can't seem to find any marks of any sort. I have looked closely.

    It's 7cm wide.

This mark looks like an ando one to me.

    That's OK for some sushi.

Oooh. No. Not seen that one yet. It has an ando mark in it too. It is lined a lot better than mine. Wonder if mine is ando or just inspired by. They normally mark their stuff.

The mark at the bottom is also punched inside the box in a corner, with text below it. It could possibly read somethingsomething Inaba.

Several other sellers on the net identify the mark as Inaba workshop mark. And I found a mark that looked like the one in the box in some auction listing I can maybe find again. It looked different from the flat one at the bottom of the box so I thought it wasn’t the same one.

I also found a pair of very expensive vases with an old receipt from Paris Grand Prix identifying them as Inaba, but no marks. It’s for sale on eBay. So Inaba may not have always marked their wares.

Here’s some background info for Inaba workshops from a Sotheby’s auction listing.

The Kin’unken Company of Kyoto opened around 1871 and was sold to Inaba Shichiho in 1889. Kin’unken won prizes at international exhibitions in Vienna 1873, Paris 1878, Amsterdam 1883, Nuremberg 1885. Inaba had been working with the company since the late 1870s, as a former low-ranking samurai in order to supplement his meagre stipend. His art name, Nanaho, uses the same characters as those for shippo, the Japanese term for enamels, which can also be read Nanaho. The company’s output was rather eclectic and combined designs and techniques used by other Kyoto makers together with those of Nagoya manufacturers. They often used Nagoya based subcontractors who were instructed to make works in Kyoto stye; this can lead to confusion when trying to identify unsigned works made for the company. Inaba/Kin’unken used both names on their cloisonné wares and continued to win prizes at international exhibitions.

For another example of a similar motif decorated on a cloisonné enamel vase with the mark of the Inaba Nanaho studio, see Christie's, The Avo Krikorian Collection: Innovation and Inspiration of Meiji Period Design, 19 February 2007, Lot 200.

The Ando marks looks different to me, but I’m totally out of my depth here— just trying to make amends for the misunderstanding earlier :)

Thanks for the info. I think I am confusing the two marks.
