I found this monster today. Was sorely tempted to buy it but it had a large complex crack that had been repaired. After 5 minutes of deliberating I walked away. It is about 30cm tall. Hope I didn't miss out on a rare find.

It was 15 quid mate. If it was just a small crack I might have gone for it. It was a bit of a humpty Dumpty job though. I've not seen one with that icon blue and gold pattern before which drew me to it. Always the possibility of returning to the shop but it's like 15 miles away

yeah its hard to assess without knowing what the damage looked like.
the way the birds are painted reminds me of 19c japanese woodblocks

would be great to find one similar today, to get an idea ;)

what did the base look like ?

It does but a room full of broken vases that won't sell soon empties the bank. The base is white with a two symbol generic kutani mark. It has a pronounced foot rim around the edge which follows the shape of the ridges on the side.

Well, it's not super great quality,:shy: so I wouldn't buy it unless it was in perfect condition.

That's what I thought. Nice to have other opinions so I don't feel like I missed out.
