I find the best way of taking good photos is a cheap tripod and uploading them to facebook this re-sizes them so I can upload them on here.

NICE! No one ever said Indian silversmiths didn't know their stuff.

Truly magnificent!!! I love the silver with the ebony together, and I'm a little jealous of your Indian silver, especially given the repousse matches the Nagina. I think the way you have set the arrangement of black and white in the display case is very clever indeed. Have I seen that Nagina box with the large miniature set into the top?

Thanks. Ebony and silver do seem to go together well. In fact I have a nice silver topped Nagina walking cane which made me think about putting the two together. The workmanship on Indian silver (like your wonderful Sadeli boxes - which I am also quite jealous off) is stunning and undervalued, though they are also increasing in price. Regarding the box with the miniature, I’m not sure if I’ve posted this before - the box is in good nick but I’ll admit that the miniature is not in the best condition and a little faded but you can still see what it is.

If the miniature has lost it's glass it doesn't take long before the watercolour fades away, I don't know if that's what's happened to yours? I have 4 miniatures inset into boxes and another 7 in a frame, 1 of the 7 has gone to glass loss. You have given me display envy, 98% of my collection is stuffed into drawers and cupboards, I have antique on antique on antique, I don't have enough space, it's really bad when you don't have the space to display something the size of a box lol. Maybe I'll do some more photos of bits I've found in the last few years.

Fortunately the glass is still there. I just think the painting has been cleaned and lost some of the detail in the process which is a shame.

As for the display cases, I pick up Edwardian/ art deco ones cheaply from auctions. I usually never pay more than £50 for one. I work from home so I have an office. My wife and I have an agreement. I can keep anything I want as long as it fits in the office. So I have become quite creative with my space.

s-l1600 (52).jpg I did buy the lot above for the Vizagapatam box and nearly said to the seller to keep the other boxes and just send the Vizagapatam box but the tin is a Antique Cadbury's three queens Tudor tin bourneville worth around £10 1910 c. The 2nd box is a Jamaican Wood Art Eve Foster Artist worth £15-£20 and the Russian Palekh lacquer box looks like it's signed? They range from £60-£500

Could you show us the signature?

The subject is one of those fairy tales about fish that grant wishes or riches if caught. This one is the 'magic pike', I believe it grants longevity.

I can only go by where the signatures are on other boxes I've seen but I believe there to be writing below and in the blue lines at the bottom of the picture, what it says and even if this is a signature I don't know but all the other boxes I've seen that have writing are dates and signatures.
It does look like a pike, I'm not going to risk saying anything about longevity :) I'm 55 ;)
