Interestingly enuf, his name does not show up on FindArtInfo when I enter the name. But when I look under the name Foster sure enuf he's there. Wow.

He was an illustrator. May have been created for a magazine. Or perhaps it was an ad. Can you read the text on the box?

I just can’t believe an auctioneer wouldn’t figure out who painted it before letting it hit the block.

 

I THOUGHT that scene had a familiar look to it!!! Or a Hunting Magazine????

That artist was pretty prolific!!!!!​

Most of the Art databases are pay sites.Very nice piece,early realistic illustration's currently commanding some good money.

 

I was unfamiliar with him. But, according to the internet... He illustrated the cover of the very first L.L. Bean catalog.

Curious, no? I thought B.L. Makepeace was a framer. But... not.

It is the cover for the August 1925 National Sportsman magazine. He was the editor.

Strange, I'm not sure why the seller is showing the other covers? It seems the Dec. issue is what's being offered! He may have the Aug. issue available?
