Sorry there are elements of the Khatam boxes that I have that are painted like the border of your boxes, it might be hard to see from my photos

I'm not entirely sure but I may have made a mistake saying these were 1960's tourist pieces, sorry. I have been doing far more research on Iranian painting of late, then I thought oh lets look again at my Iranian papier mache painted box and found a number of auctions saying they were 19th c.

I am now thinking mine might also be 19th c, if so I'm very excited, I love the artwork on my box and bought it only because of the artwork but in the back of my mind I always thought it was a transfer from the 60's or 70's because it was so well done and because I didn't pay a lot for it but now I do hope I was wrong :) I'll do some photos later and post them.

I have owned this box for years and always thought it wasn't hand painted and it was some sort of transfer printed modern tourist piece. Over the last few weeks I have been taking a deep dive into Iranian art and I am flabbergasted at the skill, this lead me back to my box thinking the artist might have just been that good to almost exactly replicate the scene twice instead of it being a transfer print and I'm pleased to see this is indeed the case.

10,000 pounds? Wowser. Don't see much of the Iranian/Persian stuff here, but lots of Russian lacquered boxes.

Unfortunately Russian lacquered boxes aren't the same especially seeing as I got one in a lot of boxes I bought the other day :( The Christies box I thought was cheap, do you see how well it's been done? Italian masters would be in awe of such work. The more I research Iranian art the more I'm impressed, now just got to find one on ebay for 99p start :)

Oh, I wasn't comparing the Persian boxes to the Russian lacquer ones; just commenting that I don't see a lot of Persian art around my locale but seeing more of the Russian ones (perhaps because of online shopping, LOL!). Miniature paintings show up at the auction occasionally but boxes fairly rarely.

It's would seem making mistakes is something I do a lot lol Only last night I was messaging a ebay seller saying can I have a refund on a item I bought and hadn't yet picked up because it was a fake. In my defence the Hoshiarpur shaving stand looked right, it was only after lengthily research I found a Indian company faking them using camel bone instead of ivory and aging them to look old. I'll leave a link to the ebay item and see what other members think. It looks like it's been removed but I hope you can see the link. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/266679738965
