Pipe bowl - strange find

Replied to a fbmp ad for free pillaging of a basement wood shop/work shop. Millennial bought house and wanted it all gone. Turned out he wanted a little $ after I grabbed tons of stuff. Anywho everything was American and 99% work shop related. All but this and must have been the kids late 70’s and 80’s rock records. I saw this sitting on a workbench in a heap of stuff and thought it looked awfully out of place. Took it home and the only thing I can find that is a close resemblance are African pipes. Such a strange thing to find in that basement if so. Some Austrian pipes are close but not close enough I don’t think. Anyone seen one before? Anyone think it’s something other than an African pipe bowl? Only one site I found seems to have any real mention of them. Looks potentially dug, or maybe just dirty.

 

It looks like there is a mold line around it, which would not be typical of an African clay pipe. The material also looks a little odd/amateur. I am wondering if a mold was made from some other pipe, and this one was cast from that mold. I realize that just begs the question of the origin of the pipe that was being copied.
