Exactly. The file marks on the cross in the book are more rounded, worn.
And as you point out, the image is very crisp.
When you have an image that is so extremely worn as on OP's, the file marks would have been so worn that they were hardly visible. Which is what I meant by smooth and not that many file marks.

I always have a hard time believing an item is a replica when you do an internet wide search and don't get one single hit. I have done searches where I found zero
identicals (the last one my bronze lady and kidlet) where I'm pretty sure she has a twin, but I'm not positive. The idea of replicas is for the maker to mass produce for maximum profit, not do a one of knock off for fun. I can say that this cross, (It's nice) appears to be a repro, but I don't know. There's no dupes online that I found.

The internet is not the world........and it's not what u search for, but how you search.
If key words don't match up.....or if no one else has already uploaded an image of what you seek , finding...will be impossible !
There are huge numbers of items in catalogs, and books that have yet to see light on the WWW.........and may never even appear online.

To me it looks like the patina is applied. It wouldn't be that even on a really old one unless maybe it's excavated.

and the bronze is coming through like a yellow color and i believe that on a real one you have more red and green patination and not the bronze color coming through

I don't think you have, hunt, at least I'm not aware of it.
You are trying to find the truth, which is a good thing. When you question things (in a polite way), you keep the rest of us sharp.

Not necessarily. A replica can even be a one-off, made for a museum for instance. Some museums don't have the funds for good pieces or can't access them for other reasons, but they want to show what those pieces look like for educational purposes.

Yes, old ones in churches and monasteries are treasured and looked after.
On an old one you can see a yellowish tone, but it wouldn't be as bright yellow as on the side of your cross, rather darker yellow, going towards brown.

What i think is that the photo's mislead allot because of the lighting. So here are new photo's, let me know if the opinions are still the same. IMG_20240507_162257514.jpg IMG_20240507_162326855.jpg IMG_20240507_162356605_HDR.jpg

Mine is. But having said that, I think it is a beautiful and unusual cross.
