It has taken a lot of photographs moving around the house to get the necklace looking as I see it. Red was quite prolific.

I see it as quite ivory, with small amounts of red.

 

Thanks for the pictures. I have quite a few coral necklaces and two conch shell ones. One of those also has ivory colored beads with some small amounts of red. Similar to yours.
When I bought them years ago (also 1€ I think) I thought they were coral also, but when you get more into jewelry and when you study coral a bit more you see the texture is different.
But lots of people on the web sell conch shell jewels as being coral.

Probably not. As this thread shows, it can be difficult to tell them apart, especially if you haven't seen much coral. And of course most people would like their beads to be coral, so they don't look for other possibilities.

THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR COMMENTS, they have been helpful and interesting. I would like to restring them and even the number of small bead, if somebody directs me to how one gets the knot to the bottom of the second half of the screwed fitting.

 

I'd like to know this too. Had exactly the same problem with a strand of MOP beads that has a screw clasp. Made a hash of it so that there is a big gap between the last bead & clasp on that side. I think now it might be possible to do by controlling the placement of the knot using a long needle. Or maybe not.

 

I was thing along the lines. A flat-ended screwdriver with V in it; but I cannot conceive how to make something like that will fit down a small hole like is in the fitting.

 

One of the superfine crochet hooks might manage it. Other than that dunno. I only tried it once and it didn't really work.

Same here. Do you have something white, a towel perhaps, that is not bright white printer paper you could use behind it? Or something grey, like a sweatshirt?

Coral was my first impression, but I see all the cues for conch. Without knowing the color accurately, I'm just guessing.

 

Not a big fan of invasive tests, but why don't you test for tourself if its coral?
Just put a drop of vinegar on one of the small beads... if you start seeing small bubbles appear it would be coral.
Clean off asap, because vinegar breaks down coral (calcium sceletons).
Does anyone know if conch would react with vinegar?
Better find out if conch reacts with vinegar first!

 

Shell is calcium carbonate. No vinegar, please!

 

I"d only use that test on broken materials, and then wouldn't need it because breaks usually tell the tale.

 

I will take a couple more photographs in the next hour.
@Bronwen I think the tool for making the hidden knot would be a pump inflation needle. It fits into the fitting and has a flat bottom. What strength thread should I get? Nylon fishing line or threading silk? Pump not required.

If it were me doing this, I would treat them like pearls & knot them onto silk bead cord. You use the heaviest weight the smallest bead hole will accommodate. Are the holes uniform in size or do larger beads have larger holes? In my stringing days I found I needed #4 cord more than any other.

 

Your camera is annoyingly focusing on the jersey knit in the background & leaving the beads in the foreground fuzzy.

I'm starting to wonder whether the smaller beads are coral & the 9 largest conch. Doing the same flip flop as @kyratango
