Chunky Amber? necklace, please help!

Hi,
Bought this necklace, the closing / clasp is sterling silver, unmarked, but the amber brings some question marks for me, they do not feel like amber, they smell more of a chemical.
@Any Jewelry I wonder what is your opinion on it, and where would it likely originate? How old would you say that it may be?
Please, could you comment as well on the closing system, is something new for me, would like to get a better understanding.
Was sold as Baltic amber…

could be bakelite! Often emits a chemical smell.

 

Looks like a Monies/Catherine Noll necklace with a broken clasp which was replaced with the silver one.
I don't believe its amber or bakelite
Chances are big that this is a kind of resin.
They are difficult to sell as is though, so I m not sure what your chances are with the replaced clasp.

Thank you so much, I will do some research on it. My initial thought was the clasp was supposed to be like that, but now I can see the repair.
I would like to keep it, statement necklaces are my weakness, and cameos ❤️ of course.
