    This has to be a mind numbingly monotonous job. Thank goodness someone does it though! Interesting to see a video on the process of hallmarking if you’re into that sort of thing!

    Health and Safety would have a fit if they did that now.

    Exposure to Lead vapour, Nitric Acid and Silver Chloride fumes.

    It would not have done the workers much good breathing that stuff in everyday.
    No eye protection, breathing apparatus, gloves.

    The furnace door was missing.

    Oh well, as long as you were wearing your Tie, it was ok:eek::D

    I did definitely wonder about much of what you mentioned. Not to mention one employee looked about 12 years old.

    I wonder how much is still done chemically vs. with a XRF gun or something similar? Maybe someone will find a link to a modern video someday.

    I’ve seen some modern news pieces on it, don’t know if they’re on YouTube. One might have been on antiques road trip. Yes, it’s all XRF and laser etch now.
