Help with Australian wood carved paperweight

Hello everybody. I have this vintage wood turned paperweight. It is one solid piece. It seems to have a layer of lighter varnish and you can see where this has flaked off and you can see that the wood naturally has a dark colour. On the bottom there is a stamp that is partially indistinct (see the last image below). It reads "AUSTRALIAN _____ WOOD". I cannot read the middle word. It ends with the letter "A" and is 4 or 5 letters in total. Any help in identifying this word would be much appreciated (also any other information if you recognise this type of work). Many thanks.

Thanks so much for identifying this as "Mulga" wood. I really appreciate the time you have taken.
