Featured Eagle with shield. What is this for?

    Hey all. Picked this up this weekend and am a bit puzzled by the back. There's so much going on. The last pic is a close up of how the back of the eagle is constructed. Was this made to just hang on a wall or did it have a specific purpose? Any ideas on age?     Thanks, @smallaxe. It's roughly 22" wide by 18" tall. That's a VERY surprising price.

    So you thread something through the loops on the back?

    there's a nail or screw hole on the bottom to secure it to......something else

    My guess is it's from WWI or the Spanish-American War or thereabouts. It was meant to hang on something, and on top of a bunting would fit. Parade route decoration probably.
