Antique large silver over copper tray origin?

Discussion in 'Metalware' started by Barbara Edwards, Oct 17, 2024.

  1. Can anyone advise where this large 23” silver over copper engraved tray originated from? I understand the majority of this type of tray were manufactured in the Middle East but as there appears to be no Islamic imagery so I’m unsure. The pattern looks typical of the Art Nouveau period.

Beautiful. It looks Indo-Persian style to me, so India-Pakistan-Afghanistan.
What looks like silver could be tin-plated.

I bet that had a nice folding wooden stand once. Octagonal. I’ve had them.

It’s very typical not to have Islamic motifs on these. I’d agree with aj on origin.
