There is no fluorescence under UV light. I'm inclined to think it's a bit large for an ashtray (8 1/2"). Not that there aren't lots of large ashtrays.

The Worthpoint description from ebay refers to it as Barro Negro Black Clay which is not right for that piece or mine.
