It's a trick of the eye. It is cut with a band saw and then a back is glued on. The outside it sanded to blend the wood. You can see a hint of it...
It's a pretty decent fake. Look at the hair bow/tie. [ATTACH]
Try looking up "Band Saw Jewelry/Trinket Box". They are typically cut using a band saw.
